FAQ

  • What is the difference between your printing and other labs?

Our printing method might differ from some other labs because of our paper and canvas selection and the quality and permanence of our inks. Another difference is the software we use to optimize your images before they are sent to our printers. We currently use superior inkjet technology and first grade papers and canvases paired with archival quality pigment inks. This results in great looking prints in either paper or canvas, which are guaranteed to look incredible and last for generations to come.

  • I have a good camera but I’m not sure that I have enough resolution for the print size that I want, what would you suggest?

Print size is strictly related to the megapixels of your camera. The more pixels you have, the larger you can print. You should also consider other variables to determine the optimal and the largest print size that you can achieve. For instance, the type of camera you own, quality of lenses, and the lighting conditions used to capture your image are crucial aspects when it comes to enlarging your image(s). Another variable you should consider is viewing distance. A good rule for this is that you should multiply the diagonal length of your print x3 to obtain a minimum viewing distance. From this you can deduce that the larger the print, the less DPI (dots per inch) you require. A good example of this, would be the advertisement billboards you see on the streets. They are usually printed between 30-90 DPI, and yet they manage to look sharp from a distance of 20 ft or more.

  • What type of paper would you recommend for my images?

Every image has a different value (it could be sentimental or monetary), and transmits a different message for every viewer. There are no general rules when it comes to choosing your printing paper or canvas type. It’s more of the aesthetics and feel that you want to input to your image(s).

  • Are there any technical specifications you require for my image before it is uploaded?

If you’re into the geeky stuff, we prefer your images cropped to size, in sRGB or Adobe RGB – no alpha channels and completely flattened at a resolution no less than 120 DPI.

  • How do I know the size of my image(s)?

There are a couple of ways to find out. You can open your image on a photo editing program such as Elements, Photoshop, Gimp, Lightroom, Corel, etc. and on the image properties you should be able to read the image size in inches. You can also find out by selecting your image, and in the file properties menu you can determine the amount of pixels.

  • My image size is not listed on your website, can you print it?

Yes we can! Just send us an email to [email protected] and we will respond with the appropriate information.

  • I have images in colour but I would prefer to print them in black and white, is that possible?

Yes! During the uploading process, you will have the opportunity to specify any changes you would like us to perform in regards to your image(s).

  • I want to order several prints, will I get a discount?

We pride ourselves in consistently producing high-quality prints while offering great value. If you are ordering 25+ prints of the same image, you can get an even better deal.

  • I don’t want my prints to be shipped, can I pick them up instead?

Yes you can! When uploading your image(s), you can select “pick up”, and the shipping cost will be waved.

  • Am I able to choose the day of my delivery?

Unfortunately at this time we can not accommodate individual delivery dates, but you can always choose to pick up your prints any time after you receive an email notifying you that your order is ready.

  • Can you gift-wrap my order?

At this time we are not able to provide gift-wrapping services.

  • Can I trust my payment information with you?

Absolutely. You’re payment information will be securely handled on an encrypted page, managed directly by our financial institution. This way you can rest assured that none of your confidential or banking details are stored with us.

  • I just uploaded my images, now what?

Thank you! An order confirmation email will be sent to you shortly, then we will optimize your image through our printing software. After, your image will be sent to be printed at one of our dedicated poster/canvas printers, and finally we will package your print and have it ready to be shipped or picked up.

  • My prints arrived and look awesome, will they always maintain their quality?

Yes and No. With proper care, your images will last between 80-200 years, particularly if they are in black and white, but degrading factors such as improper framing, and direct exposure to sunlight or moisture, can decrease your prints’ lifespan greatly.

  • Do you have gift certificates available for purchase?

Yes! You can purchase a gift certificate for $10 or more from our webpage. You can also purchase one through telephone at 416-645-1202, or via email to [email protected].

 Poster Size Printing

  • Why do you call them poster size prints?

Because we like big! We specialize in printing in large format, as you can see in our size selection menu while uploading, our smallest size begins at 8×8 inches.

  • What is the difference between your satin and matte paper?

It all comes down to aesthetics, texture, and the overall appearance of your image. While our satin photographic paper is exquisite and resembles the traditional darkroom print, our matte photographic paper is truly soft, textured, and incredibly smooth. The radical difference between the two, is that our matte paper produces no glare whatsoever, giving you an angle of view as wide as 170 degrees.

  • Is the quality of both papers equal?

Yes! Both our papers are produced by the same manufacturer, and will therefore share an equal outcome in quality.

  • Are there any premium papers available?

Yes! Our premium paper is made by Hahnemühle, a paper mill founded in 1584. They are the oldest German paper manufacturers of traditional and digital fine art media. We have selected from their digital line Photo Rag® Bright White. This is a 100% cotton paper with a smooth surface texture which guarantees archival standards. With its premium matte inkjet coating Photo Rag Bright White meets the highest industry standards regarding density, colour gamut, colour graduation and image sharpness, while preserving the special touch and feel of genuine art paper. This paper ideal uses are: photographic and fine art reproduction, digital art, superb printing of black & white photography, limited edition prints, and prints for exhibitions.

 Canvas Printing

  • What is canvas printing?

It is a revolutionary, interesting and modern way to print your images. Canvas prints offer a new way to showcase and preserve your memories or artwork. Our canvas prints are guaranteed to meet archival standards. They have a true canvas feel and provide wide colour gamuts. All our canvas prints are professionally stretched onto 1 3/8” gallery wraps, and ready to hang on the wall.

  • I haven’t printed on canvas before, is there something I need to do before uploading my images to you?

No, but you should know that our canvas prints require additional image on the four borders in order to produce image bleed. We create this image bleed by mirroring whatever part of the image is closer to the border (approximately 2 inches) so you don’t lose any of your original image. In case you have placed a critical part of the image too close to the border (ie, an eye), we will replace your image bleed with a solid colour.

  • What is the difference between your satin and matte canvas?

Just like with our satin photo paper and matte photo paper, the contrast and vibrancy will be higher on the satin canvas, while the matte canvas will bring more texture and render colours more subtly.

  • Do both types of canvases have the same quality?

As with all of our papers, canvas prints are also guaranteed to last equally under similar display and conservation conditions.

  • Why are the prices between poster and canvas printing different?

Our poster prints are shipped ready to be framed or mounted, whereas our canvas prints are already stretched in a gallery wrap and ready to hang on the wall. You should keep in mind when ordering a canvas print that you have ordered a finished product.

  • Does my canvas need to be framed?

No, but there are options to enhance the display of your canvas wraps, such as floater frames. If you wish to find out more about how to enhance the display of your canvas wraps, feel free to email us at [email protected], or call us at 416-645-1202.
